Analysing Mojo Magazine

Masthead

In the masthead the word 'Mojo' is used and that connotes to a meaning of Mojo which means 'a magic charm, talisman or spell'.
The genre Mojo represents; which is classic and modern rock, folk, soul, electronic and experimental. This word connotes the genre to the audience because it covers such a huge variety it's magical! Normally it would be difficult to cater to all these genres and maintain a fanbase. Yet they manage it, which is indeed a charm.

Analysing Magazines

Target Audience:

Genre: Rock
Age: 18 to 30
Gender: Male
Social Grade: C1 to E
Ethnicity: White
Interests: Partying, Smoking, Drinking, Reading, Vehicles, Movies

Masthead

The masthead is an onomatopoeia, it represents the sound a guitar makes when it is struck.
The genre is Rock, so the masthead represents the essence of rock which is the twang of a guitar string being played in an excellent riff.
The typography of the masthead represents the target audience as it is very rugged and wild, which is what a stereotypical rocker's attitude would be.
The chosen colours for the masthead is red, this will attract the target audience as it is a vibrant colour and vastly stands out from the dull grey background.

Colour Pallet

The colours in my colour pallet are Yellow, Red and many shades of Grey.
These colours connote everything 'rock'. Red is rage and everything emotional that pours out of one whilst jamming to a great tune. Yellow is the buzz one gets from listening to a truly amazing rock song like Thunderstruck by ACDC. Grey is the dullness of boring life that is not experienced when listening to truly epic music.

Layout

The layout looks spacious and stylish, it is not cramped.
The magazine content is all about what is displayed first and foremost, the band called Soundscape, other content includes what is mentioned on the front page.

Images

The main image is a low angle shot. It shows Adam staring down in a somewhat brooding fashion.
It's presented in a black and white fashion, Adam is wearing dark clothes and is staring down at the floor. His expression is brooding.
The main image attracts the audience because it's large and dark and the text onto of it contrasts largely.
There are 4 minor images on the cover. They are all medium shots or medium close ups.
The main audience is attracted by the minor images because they're all famous and people would want to read and hear new information about them.

Teasers/Typography/Lexis

The main image shows the band the magazine is dedicated to.
The language is simple and informal.
The language is simple because the content within the magazine is informal. I am not saying that the audience is informs, but most would just like to listen to rock music and dance in a mosh pit.
No punctuation is used accept capital letters, which some words are entirely composed of, and this is because it represents their crazy and vigorous personalities

Other Features

A bar code is also featured on the cover.
It is quite small and located on the right.
It is quite small as to not draw attention away from everything else on the magazine.
